Sportsman Lake is located 5 miles east of Seminole, Oklahoma. Stretching nearly 2 miles from one end to the other and over a 1/4 mile wide. A great fishing lake for anglers of all ages. With 15 miles of shoreline ranging from rocky,sandy, stumpy and cat-tails, fishermen can test their skill against the lake and its submerged trees to hang "the big one" which an be over 10lbs.
The lake's shoreline ranges from gentle to steep slopes with numerous rock outcrops and small cliffs. The hilltops and upper slopes are generously forested with small hardwood trees, primarily oak, blackjack, and pine trees. The lake area is beautiful any time of the year but is especially scenic when flowering shrubs and leaf buds decorate the landscape with a soft glow in spring or when the brilliant colours of fall start to unfold. The picturesque setting is an open invitation to the visitor for picnicking, camping, hiking, fishing boating, horse riding and sightseeing.
Recreation facilities at this lake are provided by the City of Seminole and offer well kept and clean camping areas bathrooms, covered pavilions and a playground for the kids. The swimming area has a sandy beach great for tanning and building sand castles. Most campsites are paved and have ample shade from morning to evening. Docks (3 which is handicap accessible and 1 partially covered) are fish-able year round. A partially covered bridge also serves as a great fishing platform. Joggers will love the 1 mile paved road circling cove 3 and with hiking trails going for miles Sportsman Lake offers all
active visitors an excellent opportunity for year-round enjoyment.
For the nature lover, there are many native trees and flowering shrubs, and a variety of wild flowers. Wildlife here is abundant as well including Wild Turkey, Deer, Coon, Eagles Ducks, Hawks, Geese and more. Because hunting is not permitted anywhere on the 1400 acre refuge, wildlife is not easily shun allowing you to get close creating great photo opportunities.
