Sportsman Lake is located 5 miles
east of Seminole, Oklahoma.
Stretching nearly 2 miles from one end to the other and over a 1/4 mile wide.
A great fishing lake for anglers of all
ages. With 15 miles
of shoreline ranging
from rocky to sandy to stumpy fishermen can test
their skill against the lake
and its submerged trees to hang "the big one" which can be over
10lbs.
The
lake's shoreline ranges from gentle to steep slopes with numerous
rock outcrops
and small cliffs. The hilltops and upper slopes are generously
forested with small hardwood
trees, primarily oak, blackjack, and pine trees.
The
lake area is beautiful any time of the year but is especially scenic when
flowering shrubs and leaf buds decorate the landscape with a soft glow in
spring or when the
brilliant colors of fall start to unfold. The picturesque setting
is an open invitation to the visitor for
picnicking, camping, hiking, fishing
boating, horse riding and sightseeing.
Recreation
facilities at this lake are provided by the City
of Seminole and offer well kept and clean camping areas
bathrooms, covered pavilions and a playground for the kids.
The
swimming area has
a
sandy beach great for tanning and
building sand castles. Campsites are
paved and have ample
shade from morning to evening. Docks (4 which is handicap
accessible and 1 partially covered) are fishable
year round. A
partially covered bridge also serves as a great fishing platform.
Joggers will love the 1 mile paved road circling cove 3 and
with hiking trails going for miles Sportsman Lake offers all
active visitors an excellent opportunity for year-round enjoyment.
For the nature lover, there are many native trees and
flowering shrubs, and a
variety of wild flowers. Wildlife here is
abundant as well including Wild
Turkey, Deer, Coon, Eagles
Ducks, Hawks, Geese and more. Because hunting is not
permitted
anywhere on the 1400 acre refuge, wildlife is not easily shun
allowing you to get close creating great photo opportunities.
